A new look for the website

For those that have taken a look at the website over the last few days may have noticed that things have changed a little bit again. We’re still working on getting the website up to shape to work well for us and the last look was a little hard to maintain and I didn’t end up liking it as much as I thought I would. So we’ve got a new look and I think it’s pretty cool. Our galleries are working better now and we’ve got more space to work with so stay tuned and keep coming back and sharing links to our posts on facebook etc as the more links we can get the better :).

We’re also working on a new logo to replace the temporary one. If you’d like to help out then feel free to drop us a line. pete@kitesurfing.com.au.

Cheers..

How NOT to play with kites..

This video was just shared about on facebook by the SUCK guys. It shows what ‘seemed’ like a good idea at the time but ended – almost predictably – in near disaster. From what I can read into this they attached a long shoe lace from the boat to the harness and proceeded to fly things about to get some great lift. It is actually a wonderful example of apparent wind effects with flying the kite about.

Anyway, the shoe lace snaps at about 20ft up, the shock has stopped the guy completing his loop (which would have made things a bit softer) and he hits the deck like a sack of spuds. Good job this wasn’t over land!

Anyway. watch, enjoy, LEARN..

A KITERS BLOG FROM BACK IN 2003

[vc_row el_position=”first”] [vc_column] [vc_column_text el_position=”first last”]

I was sent this link today from a good friend of mine who as it happens has been keeping a blog about his kite surfing life since WAY back in 2003! He obviously has been going over his website as he sent me the first article he posted on it that sums up how it was back in 2003 and how excited people get.

It makes for a quite amusing read, I’m pretty sure he was on speed or acid when he wrote it as it is a total rambling of stuff before not much about actually kiting. I’m glad to see he has improved along the way!

The rest of his blog waiting for the wind is worth a look at too, his google map showing all the places he has kite surfed is included below. here.

Alex has been part of the Sydney Kite community for some time now and has been a regular instructor at the NSWKBA Kite Chicks weekends which is how we first met. He’s mad keen for kite surfing and his enthusiasm is quite contagious.

Alex also runs Divine Kiting that provides an all-inclusive travel experience to help you learn to kite surf with an all in approach whilst taking in locations that are not the usual Sydney based locations.

Alex (the one on the kite) re-enacts the famous Richard Branson shot with the model. I’m not sure which is nicer to look at, actually I’m really sure which one I’d rather look at!

MORE DEE WHY VIEWS FROM ABOVE

Jon has made his best video flight to date with perfect weather over Dee Why. Great views and good work Jon.

WE WANT YOUR PHOTOS!

As you can see the new look kitesurfing.com.au website is starting to grow and develop quite nicely. We have had some very nice positive feedback on the site and it would appear that you guys and gals are happy that it’s back and active.

Part of keeping the site active, up to date, interesting and part of the kitesurfing community for Sydney and beyond is getting great content from everyone to share. We have a nice new photo portfolio that can showcase some of the brilliant sessions and photos taken by everyone so please, if you have some great content you want to share please email them to pete@kitesurfing.com.au so we can post them up to share.

We are also looking at more ways to push the website into a more useful tool for people. Currently we are looking at starting an online shop selling some branded gear for everyone, gear reviews, more accurate kite spot info in Sydney and local rider profiles.

Did you also know that if you twitter a photo to @kitesurfingaus it will show up on the site? It does and it works really well. So if you are at the beach and it’s going off or even if you are chilling having beers on the beach waiting for the wind, tweet up that photo and let us know what you are upto. Maybe someone will come and join you for a beer!

Please let us know what you’d like to see from the website by commenting in the comments section below and we’ll work on making it so.

We look forward to hearing from you..

THE HISTORY OF KITE SURFING

[vc_row el_position=”first last”] [vc_column] [vc_column_text el_position=”first”]

I received this link to a movie on YouTube that discusses where kite surfing all started back in the day. Lots of now familiar faces who were pioneers. It’s an hour-long so probably not good to sit and watch in the office but if you have time it is well worth a watch. The first 10 minutes provides some good laughs just looking at the old skool equipment and kites. I’m thinking about giving waterskis a go now after watching this just for fun, who’s in?

RAD!

AERIAL VIEW OVER LONG REEF & DEE WHY

[vc_row el_position=”first last”] [vc_column] [vc_column_text el_position=”first”]

Here is something a little different. Broken kiter Jon ‘two fin’ Turner has shifted his focus due to injury into building – then crashing – then rebuilding model planes. He’s strapping a go-pro to it and filming his flights over the beach.

He is getting some great footage of the beaches and surf from above and gives a different view of our favourite beach. Check out the YouTube vid below to view one of Sydney’s northern beaches Dee Why & Long Reef from a different angle.

Good work Turner, keep it up.

I just had a quick look at these pics and I can derive the following from them. It was Xmas in 2005 in Sydney, it was hot, it was sunny, there was no wind, the guys were at Dee Why and they had a stupidly large kite! Oh and Rob had a mo. Love it.
