HOW TO BODGE A HARNESS IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE

Now this is how to really rig it! Our good friend Mr Cole recently forgot his spreader bar on a small trip away. With a lack of spares and no shop in sight he went about making the ‘Cole Special’.

Sydney kiter Cole here did the hard yards with this baby, 400km from the tip to PNG waters in rough seas. There is one side effect to doing this however, he’s lost a waste size (that’s good right) and his hips are now wider front to back than they are sideways! He’s also walking like a crab. Good work Nick.

What he’s done here is take you every day tie down strap, loop it multiple time through the metal clips that would normally hold the bar, stick in a few granny knots for good measure and slap a giant shackle on it. I’m impressed that he found all the components required to do this on a 4×4 bus on the track to the tip of Cape York. It gets a full 3/5 chainsaws on the crazy scale from me :)

My good friend Jess compiled a quick clip of her go-pro handheld footage from the Torres Crossing 2013. For me this video brings back great memories and will always be an inspiration to get off my bum and go and do something. Well done Jess.

WE ARE BACK!!

Hi folks, we are BACK!!

If you happened to hit the site in the last two weeks you may have seen things looking a little worse for wear, something went wrong in Internet land and the new test website had to be published ahead of time. Unfortunately the web admin Pete was rather in disposed attempting to be one of the first in the world to kite surf the Torres Straits and didn’t get a chance to fix things up.

The good news is that the new site is now LIVE and KICKING and we hope to get posting up in the next few days. I’ll be posting up my Torres Story and a review of the 2013 Blade Trigger 9m and also the 12m when I get to fly it, A review of the warrior harness from Mystic and a story on what I’ve learnt endurance kiting on a surfboard.

So welcome back to the NEW look website. If you want to contact us click the contact button at the top of the page to find us.

Don’t forget to sign up to the newsletter and wind updates, follow us on twitter @kitesurfingaus

So Rob and Kat have moved to Geraldton in WA. This has left a huge hole in the center of the universe know as Dee Why. Thank goodness for Skype!

[/vc_column_text] [vc_gmaps title=”Where the bloody hell is Geraldton?” link=”https://maps.google.com/maps?q=geraldton&hl=en&ll=-30.826781,117.762451&spn=5.847559,10.535889&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=42.987658,84.287109&hnear=Geraldton+Western+Australia,+Australia&t=m&z=7″ size=”350″ type=”m” zoom=”5″] [vc_column_text el_position=”last”]

It looks to me like the butt end of nowhere but Rob assures me it is a nice place. I’m pretty sure I have been through there on my travels in the past and kited there.

Anyway, The blog posts that follow here are all about WA. Rob and Kat will be posting up here.

We miss you Rob & Kat

UPDATE : SUNRISE LONG REEF SESSION

Arrived at the Long Reef carpark this morning in the near pitch dark still wearing pajamas. It was a pleasant surprise getting out the van that the temperature in Sydney has raised a few notches on the dial to a balmy 17c. Snapped a quick shot – that came out a lot lighter than expected – of the view.

The wind in the carpark was a little deceiving behind the bushes. After I’d pumped up the 9 and headed down with surfboard, only to have it blow away in the 30knot gust that came through with a rain squall I decided to swap to the Twintip.

Drifter and Cabrinha skillet ready to go

The conditions today were not bad. There was plentiful wind that was quite on shore, surf was between 2ft and 6ft and very messy. Got taken out by one monster dumper and got a good working.

The Kite van.

Good see Sonia and a few other die hards turned up early too.

TRIP : SECRET HOBBS BUGGY TESTING

[vc_row el_position=”first last”] [vc_column] [vc_column_text el_position=”first”]

DSC00733

For a fair portion of 2012/2013 our mate Dave has been hard at work on a small private project to build the world best kite buggy. he’s had some great success with his product and it is a pretty serious piece of kit. You can check it out here @ www.carbonkitebuggy.com.

Back in September last year Dave had his first prototype ready to go. The weekend was picked in advance, all leave passes were approved, the location was chosen as Stockton Beach in Newcastle, we were locked in!

Then came the weekend of the 11th September 2012. WIND : 50+ knots. SEA : HUGE. BEACH : err, what beach! The east coast of NSW was hit by a huge storm. It had been brewing for a few days and had not stopped raining for days. But we were locked in so we had to bite the bullet and go.

Now we’ve never used a kite buggy before, we are all good kite surfers but this is different stuff. We opted for the safety of the 1m foil kite and that was getting ripped out of our hands at times on the Saturday. The Sunday proved a little nicer and we could remove some of the snow boarding gear we’d been wearing on the Saturday – in September!.

Anyway, below is a gallery of some of the images we got that weekend. Hope you enjoy.
