SOLD : 2013 CABRINHA CHAOS 11m FOR SALE – $1100

[vc_row el_position=”first”] [vc_column width=”2/3″] [vc_column_text el_position=”first last”]

One of the perks of running the website is that I have the opportunity to help me sell some stuff. Sorry if this upsets anyone, we aren’t really a for sale board (seabreeze is good for that) but I can offer a good deal to any kitesufing.com.au members on some excellent gear.

I have to sell my 2013 Cabrinha gear to make way for 2014 gear. All this gear has been fantastic for the short 6 months that I’ve owned it. Anyone who knows me knows that I look after my equipment and I’m not a freshman.

This kite is a 2013 Chaos 11m, it is hardly used! I purchased this with the sad reality that it wasn’t going to be very windy on the Northern Beaches and low and behold it was!

This kite really impressed me with its consistent pull and stability in any conditions. Great for freestyle and as it turns out down the line wave riding where the preference is to unhook and surf rather than flinging the kite back and forward.

This kite is like new and comes with all the usual bits, bag, bar, kite and even an unused pump in a bag (which BTW is currently the best pump on the market by far)

$1100 (rrp is over $2100!)

A KITERS BLOG FROM BACK IN 2003

[vc_row el_position=”first”] [vc_column] [vc_column_text el_position=”first last”]

I was sent this link today from a good friend of mine who as it happens has been keeping a blog about his kite surfing life since WAY back in 2003! He obviously has been going over his website as he sent me the first article he posted on it that sums up how it was back in 2003 and how excited people get.

It makes for a quite amusing read, I’m pretty sure he was on speed or acid when he wrote it as it is a total rambling of stuff before not much about actually kiting. I’m glad to see he has improved along the way!

The rest of his blog waiting for the wind is worth a look at too, his google map showing all the places he has kite surfed is included below. here.

Alex has been part of the Sydney Kite community for some time now and has been a regular instructor at the NSWKBA Kite Chicks weekends which is how we first met. He’s mad keen for kite surfing and his enthusiasm is quite contagious.

Alex also runs Divine Kiting that provides an all-inclusive travel experience to help you learn to kite surf with an all in approach whilst taking in locations that are not the usual Sydney based locations.

Alex (the one on the kite) re-enacts the famous Richard Branson shot with the model. I’m not sure which is nicer to look at, actually I’m really sure which one I’d rather look at!

GOOGLE MAPS TRACK OF THE 2013 TORRES CROSSING

Picked up this great google maps capture today showing the GPS track of the 2013 Torres Kite Crossing. Pretty impressive stuff from the boys and girls that pushed themselves to raise money for charity. I was on the trip and I’m still impressed by what was achieved. The total distance travelled was up in the 360-400km range.

Photo and GPS track courtesy of Phil Barton and Richard Hatherall.

WE WANT YOUR PHOTOS!

As you can see the new look kitesurfing.com.au website is starting to grow and develop quite nicely. We have had some very nice positive feedback on the site and it would appear that you guys and gals are happy that it’s back and active.

Part of keeping the site active, up to date, interesting and part of the kitesurfing community for Sydney and beyond is getting great content from everyone to share. We have a nice new photo portfolio that can showcase some of the brilliant sessions and photos taken by everyone so please, if you have some great content you want to share please email them to pete@kitesurfing.com.au so we can post them up to share.

We are also looking at more ways to push the website into a more useful tool for people. Currently we are looking at starting an online shop selling some branded gear for everyone, gear reviews, more accurate kite spot info in Sydney and local rider profiles.

Did you also know that if you twitter a photo to @kitesurfingaus it will show up on the site? It does and it works really well. So if you are at the beach and it’s going off or even if you are chilling having beers on the beach waiting for the wind, tweet up that photo and let us know what you are upto. Maybe someone will come and join you for a beer!

Please let us know what you’d like to see from the website by commenting in the comments section below and we’ll work on making it so.

We look forward to hearing from you..

THE PINK TORRES CROSSING FULL VIDEO

Hi All,

As one of the team members of the Pink Torres Crossing Team I’m really proud to post up this final full edit cut of our expedition diary filmed by Josh and Frankie of http://www.harrymmiller.com.au. Just watching this back brings back lots of great memories of the trip and a few spooky shots of me! If you ever get thrown a bone to jump on something you would never normally do don’t think about it, just take it, you can never know where it may lead. Thanks Alex..

A big Shout out to Geoff from 5th element expeditions also, Geoff is a machine and will be doing a solo Antarctic crossing at the end of the year with kites! Good luck Geoff.

THE HISTORY OF KITE SURFING

[vc_row el_position=”first last”] [vc_column] [vc_column_text el_position=”first”]

I received this link to a movie on YouTube that discusses where kite surfing all started back in the day. Lots of now familiar faces who were pioneers. It’s an hour-long so probably not good to sit and watch in the office but if you have time it is well worth a watch. The first 10 minutes provides some good laughs just looking at the old skool equipment and kites. I’m thinking about giving waterskis a go now after watching this just for fun, who’s in?

RAD!

AERIAL VIEW OVER LONG REEF & DEE WHY

[vc_row el_position=”first last”] [vc_column] [vc_column_text el_position=”first”]

Here is something a little different. Broken kiter Jon ‘two fin’ Turner has shifted his focus due to injury into building – then crashing – then rebuilding model planes. He’s strapping a go-pro to it and filming his flights over the beach.

He is getting some great footage of the beaches and surf from above and gives a different view of our favourite beach. Check out the YouTube vid below to view one of Sydney’s northern beaches Dee Why & Long Reef from a different angle.

Good work Turner, keep it up.

KITE LOCATIONS IN SYDNEY

[vc_row el_position=”first”] [vc_column] [vc_column_text el_position=”first last”]

If you are new to Sydney or thinking about travelling here for a kitesurfing holiday or for work then you will probably want to know where you can and more importantly can’t kitesurf.

Thankfully the guys over at NSWKBA have a reasonably comprehensive list of locations that are suitable for all levels. There is a lot of information to absorb so have a good look around.

It’s not a totally comprehensive list but has the majority of safe places that won’t get you into trouble. Click one of the buttons below to take you to the locations pages.

We will also post up some of our own location info with more details about our spots local to us in the future.

CROSSING THE TORRES

[vc_row el_position=”first last”] [vc_column] [vc_column_text el_position=”first”]

For those that are unaware, recently I was one member of a team to be the first in the world to successfully kitesurf across the Torres Straits from main land Australia to borders of PNG. This is no mean feat and just to boot I decided to do it unstrapped on a surfboard!

Over the next few weeks I plan to post up regular articles on what I have learnt in taking on such an adventure. Lessons learnt in safety, group kiting, equipment, packing, endurance and what works and what doesn’t. This should save you a big read about the whole trip as there will be many stories coming out but as I remember things I’ll post them up.

If there is anything specific you would like to know about in what we’ve learnt from the trip please comment below on this post and I’ll make sure to try and include it.

Keep checking back for my first post. In the meantime if you want more info about the torres crossing check out www.torrescrossing.com or facebook.com/torrescrossing

HOW TO BODGE A HARNESS IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE

[vc_row el_position=”first last”] [vc_column width=”2/3″] [vc_gallery type=”flexslider_fade” interval=”0″ onclick=”link_image” img_size=”large” images=”2815″ custom_links_target=”_self” el_position=”first last”] [/vc_column] [vc_column width=”1/3″] [vc_column_text el_position=”first last”]

Now this is how to really rig it! Our good friend Mr Cole recently forgot his spreader bar on a small trip away. With a lack of spares and no shop in sight he went about making the ‘Cole Special’.

Sydney kiter Cole here did the hard yards with this baby, 400km from the tip to PNG waters in rough seas. There is one side effect to doing this however, he’s lost a waste size (that’s good right) and his hips are now wider front to back than they are sideways! He’s also walking like a crab. Good work Nick.

What he’s done here is take you every day tie down strap, loop it multiple time through the metal clips that would normally hold the bar, stick in a few granny knots for good measure and slap a giant shackle on it. I’m impressed that he found all the components required to do this on a 4×4 bus on the track to the tip of Cape York. It gets a full 3/5 chainsaws on the crazy scale from me :)
