Breeze on! Thursday 3rd.

Hi all. Just looking at the charts at about 10am and it looks like a good southerly should make its way into Sydney today. When I checked the sea at DY this morning it looked like there wasn’t much swell coming in yet but that should change as the day goes on.

By my going well see a good 25+ knots hit us in the next hour so watch out if you are tempted to stick up a big kite and its going to keep blowing all night.

I’m stuck at work but I’m sure a few peeps will get down to beach for a session.

Have fun.

Windless :(. Time to check the gear for summer

Hi Guys,

A quick look at the forecasts for the weekend and it’s all looking a little depressing. Windless and waveless for the most part. This doesn’t however mean there is nothing to do. A few people have gone to the snow and there are some good parties happening at the weekend. At least Spring has broken in Sydney and the temperatures are looking on the correct side of 25c!

If you are starting to think about dusting off the old gear in preparation for a (fingers crossed) windy summer then it might be a good weekend to check your gear for wear and damage. Here is a little list of things you can check to avoid that first dash to the beach disappointment.

  • Pump that sucker up and check its not leaking. get it really hard just to make sure.
  • Go over all the bridals and check them for wear, slingshot REV’s wreck the bridal lines where the pullys run (P lines) and are always worth an extra look.
  • Check over the canopy for tears and rips. If you find a hole don’t panic, just get some repair tape from your kite shop and stick it up. (We’ll write up a repair post)
  • Get your bar out and run out the lines, check the lines, chicken loop rope, any cleats or stoppers for wear and damage and replace if needed.
  • Check you board out, check all the binding screws and fin screws are done up tight and nothing is damaged.
  • Have a good go over your harness, check the stitching of the webbing where it joins to the harness hidden behind the bling fabric. Some Mystics had a habit of breaking here.
  • If you haven’t used it in a while maybe check your wetty for holes and tears, even though its in the high 20’s the water is still a bit nip-chow. Last year I had the misfortune to head out with a big tear in the butt of wetsuit and scared a few people with a not so nice view :(

That’s about all I can think of off the top of my head, if in doubt head to your local kite shop and get them to check it over, if its looking a bit suss then just replace it now! better to not fail at all.

Pete & Rob

Hi Guys, Yep it’s WINDY. Amazeballs. We are all gagging for a bit of Northerly wind action! There is a big crew heading out to Kurnell this morning and I’m sure the Northern Beaches will have a busy Fishermans Beach. It should be 20-25knots and all very nice.

This loveliness will not hang around all day, IT’S NOT A SEABREEZE! It is a weather system bringing us this wind and all good things will come to a total abrupt ending and swing dead offshore and turn into gusty offshore conditions. There will probably not be any real signs in the sky to indicate this change, if we are lucky you might see some clouds coming from inland first but I doubt it.

Keep it safe.. Have fun..

Hey Guys, Did you look outside yet? It’s windy. REAL WINDY!!

Have you seen the seabreeze charts today. I’ll go on record here as calling it pretty insane out there. lots of brown arrows all up the Sydney coast today and the forecast is for more!

It’s Westerly and it’s going to be super gusty. You’ll never get a clean 40-50 knots of breeze so if you are going out get your smallest handkerchief and your special brown trousers out. As always EXPERIENCED KITERS ONLY & THE FOOLISH for the next few days. These westerlies come out of nowhere!

Hi Guys,

Just a real quick heads up that Wednesday morning is looking probable for wind. Looking at the charts I’d say there is a good chance of about 20knots of SSE on the coast of Sydney. All the usual southerly spots should be in play and if my foot wasn’t still bad from the Torres Crossing I’d be at Long Reef in the dark pumping up waiting for first light. The wind probably won’t hang about for long and will die off after lunch so get on it early.

For those hitting the sea it’s looking like a few meters of swell mainly from the east but the majority of the swell looks like it won’t hit Sydney until the end of the week and should provide some great surf with off shore winds coming so Wednesday is looking pretty flat for the surfers.

Low tide is 8.45am ish for those that care about things like that, it might help get the waves up a little.

That’s it.. Have fun!

Hi Crew.

Saw some posts on facebook about people prepping for a big session tomorrow so thought I’d better take a look.

Looks like we’ve got a 50/50 on good wind during the day tomorrow, seabreeze forecast has the wind slightly later in the day now and the BOM seems to be agreeing. It also looks like the majority of the wind may pass us slightly offshore.

However, ever the pessimist I’ll call it as a probable kite tomorrow for those willing to take a gamble. It’s probably going to be after lunch and anywhere that is open to a NNW/N wind should be doable. Fishermans is a pretty safe bet and offers some safety inside the reef if it’s going to go a bit more NW. For the more adventurous swimmer┬ákiter then Macaha should offer some pretty good lefts in the surf.

As always with this time of year, watch out for a big westerly swing, we don’t want any choppers out and one way tickets to NZ.

Water temp is a frisky 17.6c so suit up.

If you have a good session or get any good pics don’t forget to email them to┬áso we can post them up. You can also send us a pic on twitter or a wind update if you are at the beach with a @kitesurfingaus.
